Saugerties, NY

New York is a gorgeous state.  The majority of the people who pass through New York stay down in Manhattan.  Let me tell you though, the rest of the state has a lot to offer.  Since my backpacking trip was slightly delayed I had the opportunity to go camping with a few of my best friends-our third annual girls camping trip!  We knew we wanted to keep our driving time down, and we knew we wanted go into New Paltz for breakfast (Main Street Bistro, every time), so we decided on Saugerties.
Saugerties, New York
None of us had been to Saugerties before, and it proved to be the perfect place to spend a lovely summer evening.  Saugerties is only a few miles away from the well known town of Woodstock, but a lot less crowded.  It's a small town with a few restaurants and shops, and we managed to find some great burgers and a table on the sidewalk.

We have grade A fire building skills, in case you were wondering.
From Manhattan it's around a two hour drive.   We booked a KOA campground, which was clean and easy to find.  While walking around the site at night we found a dark area full of lightning bugs- it was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen!  It felt like a fairy tale.  The icing on the cake was perfect weather and a bag full of s'more ingredients.
This is why I love camping.
My 3 things
I can fold up a tent and a tarp perfectly if I don’t rush
Last minute plans can work out and be fun and perfect
Camping is fun but I’m afraid of sleeping outside, you just never know what's out there
